They had to do speeches in class on optimism and pessimism. I believe they got to choose which one they did. Anyway, here is Alexis's speech on optimism:
For me, optimism is looking on the bright side of things. George W. Bush was an honest man. He tried his best to make our country a better place. I think Obama will do the same. I'm thankful that our country is free. Have you ever thought about how sad it would be to live in another country? It's probably as sad as can be. I am thankful for school. I'm sorry for people who go to the hospital and miss it. I'm happy that we get to make friends there. I am thankful for our health. I'm sorry for people who have cancer and have to take icky, icky medicine. Believe me, it's probably not fun. I'm thankful for my family. Think about it, if you didn't have a family, you'd probably cry. You would do the same thing if you didn't have friends. You should be VERY optimistic about work. If you didn't work, you wouldn't be able to have those special things in your life. Now that you know about it, I say the best idea is to be optimistic your whole life!
