subtitled: A theory
I have a theory about Kaylee's preference to be naked. I'm sure most of you remember her terrible eczema when she was a baby. Well, I'm sad to say that it always makes a nasty return in the winter. This poor baby has nasty cracked feet and red rashy places all over her legs, hiney cheeks, arms, and even sometimes her facial cheeks and her belly. Now I do my best to treat her skin. She gets all lathered up in Aquaphor ointment after every bath. I put so much of that stuff on her that she's super shiny and slick. I'm beginning to wonder if she's more comfortable...ie less itchy...when she's clothe-less. I think it's a pretty good theory. But she is a super trooper. She very rarely complains about being itchy, even though I do catch her digging away at her skin at times. I do discourage the scratching with the hope that we can prevent skin infections and WCS (worse case scenario) MRSA. She is VERY good about listening to me. Luckily, I take both girls in to see their doctor on President's day. So maybe she will have some more advice about combatting the eczema in the winter. This girl just needs some sunshine and HOT-Sticky weather....don't we all...
Here's a snapshot of her cracked foot...viewer discretion is advised...

Poor Tootsies!!!!
Have you heard how if you slather on goop at night, and put on cotton socks, it will make your feet all soft? Well, it works, but I HATE wearing socks at night. Personally, I slather up in the morning, under my daily cotton socks, and it helps. Perhaps slathering her up twice a day would be beneficial? Baby Oil right after bath to lock the water in, maybe? Mom speaks highly of the moisturizing effects of Vicks Vaporub on her feet. I've only tried it a couple times.
But she sure is a super trooper!
Yeah, we do the sock thing...and multiple applications of goo. The stuff I use has the same consistency as vapo-rub...minus the burning. This warmer weather today should help some.
Poor Kaylee bug. Gracie has crocodile skin, via her Daddy. Her eczema flares up quite often and we use Aquaphor as well. She had a prescription for Elidel when she was younger. Her feet have never cracked though. Gracie loves baths but she can't soak for very long or it just makes it worse.
I have it too, but it's a different form. I just get splotchy on my upper arms and face and sometimes it's itchy. We used Elidel on Kay when she was a baby, but then I heard nasty things about cancer risks so we stopped using it. Hydrocortison works too, but I'm a little iffy on using steriods on a regular basis because you can develop a dependence and if you stop using it the flare up is worse than if you never used it in the first place. So, we use that very sparingly...only if she complains. And I know what you're saying about the baths...same here!
Aquaphor is good stuff! We use that amongst other things on Mr. Bottoms. Have you tried Sensicare? It's what we've used around all Chris's wound sites, for skin happiness, twas recommended at the hospital, no long term effects to my knowledge. If you're interested, I can hook you up. ;)
